Build-A-Bear Workshop: Welcome to Hugsville

Last week's DS on DS review was on Build-A-Bear Workshop: Welcome to Hugsville.

From the review: "The fact that they found a way to turn a chain of do-it-yourself stuffed animal stores into a video game is strange enough. The fact that this isn't even the first game based on said chain makes it even more strange. Somehow, enough people bought the original game to warrant a sequel. I really don't understand it, but here it is. Come with me as I delve a little deeper into insanity with a trip into Hugsville."

Pokemon HeartGold & SoulSilver

This week's DS on DS Review is on Pokemon HeartGold and SoulSilver!

From the review: "Way back in the year 2K, the GameBoy was attacked by the second generation of games in the hugely popular Pokemon series, Gold and Silver. The game introduced a new region to explore and along with that, 101 new species of Pokemon to catch. Now here we are, ten years later, and the Pokemon series is still going strong. And while they are working on the Generation 5 games, they have given us a couple of great remakes of those Gen 2 games on the Nintendo DS. With the Gen 4 Pokemon games on the DS (Diamond, Pearl, and Platinum) still being very popular, is it worth your time and money to get Pokemon HeartGold and/or SoulSilver?"

Pokemon Dash

Somehow, I forgot to post this one!

Here is my DS on DS Review of Pokemon Dash, as part of my month-long build up to Pokemon HeartGold and SoulSilver.

From the review: "Picture in your head a Pokemon racing game. Take your time, I'll wait. I can guarantee that no matter how you just pictured that game, it would be better than the one that was actually made. As one of the launch titles for the Nintendo DS way back in 2005, a large majority of DS owners have probably never heard of the game. Trust me, that is not a bad thing in any way."

Pokemon Ranger

Last week's DS on DS review was another in the series of my special look at the various Pokemon games on the Nintendo DS. Last week's game was Pokemon Ranger.

From the review: "A wild Mudkip appears! You run up to it, and you whip out your Styler start drawing circles around it. Welcome to the world of Pokémon Ranger. In another game on the Nintendo DS that breaks from Pokémon tradition, Pokémon Ranger is an interesting take on how people and Pokémon interact. "

Pokemon Trozei

With the upcoming release of Pokémon HeartGold and SoulSilver, I am going to be taking a look at some of the non-traditional Pokémon games that have been released on the Nintendo DS over the next few weeks, starting with Pokémon Trozei.

From the review: "Around ten years ago, Nintendo released some of the better Pokémon spin-off titles, Pokémon Puzzle League and Pokémon Puzzle Challenge, for the Nintendo 64 and GameBoy Color respectively. These games were Pokémon-themed versions of Panel de Pon, and therefore were excellent. When the Nintendo DS was released, a new puzzle-based Pokémon was created. Instead of drawing upon Panel de Pon as the inspiration, this time they seemed to draw more from Yoshi's Cookie. This new game may have gone in a different direction, but it didn't completely suffer from that."

Meteos

This week's DS on DS review is on Meteos.

From the review: "This week, I decided to dig into the depths of releases of Nintendo DS games past, to review a game from June 25, 2005. It's one of the games that helped move the DS up near the top of my list of the all-time best systems (it has since made it to the number one position on that list, but that is a different discussion for a different time). I am talking about Meteos, a block-matching puzzle game revolving around planetary destruction."

Hello Kitty Party

This week's DS on DS review is for Hello Kitty Party.

From the review: "As soon as I started playing it, all of my senses were being assaulted. Yes, that includes taste and smell. Taste because I started vomiting. These were no ordinary oral expulsions though, Oh no. This was super-saccharin induced rainbow vomit. I don't just mean rainbow colored either. I mean straight up rainbows being involuntarily forced from my face. And they smelled so cute that it kept making me vomit more rainbows. It was a vicious cycle that continued for two days. It was really bad, and it isn't something I would ever wish on anyone."

Dark Void Zero

This week's DS on DS review was for Dark Void Zero.

From the review: "This week, along with Dark Void on the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 being released, we were also graced with the release of Dark Void Zero through Nintendo's DSiWare service. Dark Void Zero may be one of the first DSiWare titles of 2010, but that just means that it is the first to be lauded as one of the best DSiWare games of the year."

Might & Magic: Clash of Heroes

DS on DS is back! This week's reivew is for Might & Magic: Clash of Heroes.

From the review: "I had not even heard anything about the game, and in fact I didn't even know it had been released, until Penny Arcade mentioned the game in their strip and on their front page. They piqued my interest enough to look into the game a little more, and everything I found online about it made me more and more interested. I finally got my hands on it, and I have to say that this game is one of the best games on the Nintendo DS from 2009."

DS on DS: The Return

Just a quick heads-up: DS on DS will be coming back next Friday!
