Monster Racers

This week's DS on DS review is for Monster Racers.

From the review: "I'll give you a summary of the first bit of the story, and you can tell me if you notice anything that sounds familiar. I started out as a young boy named Bob. Bob wants to be the best Monster Racer there is. I start the game after travelling to Star Ocean in the middle of the Pacific Ocean. It is here that I will take the test to earn my racer badge. Before taking the test, I need to first choose my starter from three monsters. Each of the monsters has an attribute that makes them race better in certain elements, and I chose a fire type. After passing the test and getting my badge, I am free to go find more monsters to add to my team. I participate in a bunch of races, and then I see some people complaining about something. It seems there is a gang calling themselves the Astral Force, and they are causing trouble (no word on if said trouble was, in fact, made double). So not only must you compete in the various races for trophies, now you have to deal with these idiots."

Dementium II

This week's DS on DS review is on Dementium II.

From the review: "I have a sordid history with horror based video games. On one hand, I love them much like I love horror movies. On the other, when it comes to horror games, I am a big wuss. If I am controlling the character in the game, that character becomes an extension of myself. Therefore, my brain says that this is all much scarier than it should be. Just ask Scott how I was when we used to play Doom 3 together over Xbox Live. The big question here is whether or not the atmosphere of a horror game from a console can be replicated in portable form. The answer is OMGGETTHATTHINGAWAYFROMME!"

Nintendogs

This week's DS on DS review is on an oldie but goodie: Nintendogs

From the review: "Shortly after the Nintendo DS was released, Nintendo announced that there was a game coming out called Nintendogs. When I first heard about it, I scoffed at the idea. I mean, who would want a game where you raise fake dogs? Didn't we already go through the virtual pet craze with the Tamagotchi? Then more news started coming out about it. The game was getting featured on X-Play. It was starting to look very appealing to a lot of people. Everyone I knew who had a DS was purchasing this game. Then it was finally released. I think it is fair to say that it lived up to the hype."

System Flaw

This week's DS on DS review was on System Flaw.

From the review: "System Flaw is a game that makes use of the outside camera on the DSi to provide the backdrop for the game. You see, there is an alien race know as the Flaw, and they can not be seen by human eyes. Luckily, you are equipped with the latest technology in order to fight them off. Now, the gimmick to this game is that whatever the camera sees is the background for the game. The sprites of the Flaw are then overlaid on top of the real world images. It doesn't matter if you are somewhere with a lot of objects that the Flaw could potentially go behind, because that just doesn't happen. I know that most of you are thinking that it sounds like a completely lame gimmick, but there is also a secondary function to the camera use."

From the review: "Super size, mega size, king size, and jumbo size. As anyone here in America can tell you, we like everything to be bigger. The DSi XL is here, and yes, bigger is better. Is it altogether necessary? Not by any means, but that shouldn't lessen your desire for one. It sure didn't for mine."

WarioWare D.I.Y.

From the review: "As I stated in my review of WarioWare: Touched!, I hold a special place in my heart for twitch-based games. I have also always wanted to try my hand at making games. When I heard that they were making a game that combined those two things into one package, I was as giddy as a school girl. I think I even let out a "squeee". Now the game is here, and I have been playing it for a week. I think I'm in love."

Pokemon HeartGold & SoulSilver

This week's DS on DS Review is on Pokemon HeartGold and SoulSilver!

From the review: "Way back in the year 2K, the GameBoy was attacked by the second generation of games in the hugely popular Pokemon series, Gold and Silver. The game introduced a new region to explore and along with that, 101 new species of Pokemon to catch. Now here we are, ten years later, and the Pokemon series is still going strong. And while they are working on the Generation 5 games, they have given us a couple of great remakes of those Gen 2 games on the Nintendo DS. With the Gen 4 Pokemon games on the DS (Diamond, Pearl, and Platinum) still being very popular, is it worth your time and money to get Pokemon HeartGold and/or SoulSilver?"
