LEGO Rock Band

This week's DS on DS Review was written on LEGO Rock Band.

From the review: "When Guitar Hero first hit the Nintendo DS, it was fun to play, but only for short periods. That is all thanks to the hand cramping that everyone experienced with the required add-on controller that went in the GBA slot. Then, on top of that, the DSi was released and everyone who got one could no longer play any of the Guitar Hero games. Along comes LEGO Rock Band, and now it doesn't matter if you have a DS Lite or a DSi. You also don't need a goofy peripheral to play."

WWE Smackdown Vs. Raw 2010

This week's DS on DS review is on WWE Smackdown Vs. Raw 2010.

From the review: "Two years ago, the perennial Smackdown Vs. Raw was released for the first time on the Nintendo DS. That version solely used the touch screen to play the game through the usually dreaded Quick Time Events. The second iteration of the series on the DS used the d-pad to maneuver your brawler around the ring, and the touch screen to perform the attacks. Both of these were less than ideal for a wrestling game. The latest entry in the series, Smackdown Vs. Raw 2010, has finally been released, and thankfully it is a big change from the prior two games."

Imagine: Teacher Class Trip

This weeks DS on DS review is on Imagine: Teacher Class Trip.

From the review: "The questions the kids answer are extremely simple, things like matching the heads of animals to their butts. The thing here is that these kids start out STUPID. They seem to get more answers correct as you go along, but at first they get EVERYTHING wrong. This leads to some great scenes when you are grading the tests. You mark their papers zero, and you get a screen of the child crying, and it tells you you did a good job. So, here you are, in the crappiest "vacation" center ever, making kids cry just so you can get first place."

Kingdom Hearts: 358/2 Days

This week's DS on DS review is on Kingdom Hearts: 358/2 Days.

From the review: "The first portable game in the Kingdom Hearts series, Chain of Memories on the GameBoy Advance, took what everyone loved about Kingdom Hearts and turned it into a game with a card-based battle system. The game itself takes place between the two main PS2 Kingdom Hearts games. The second of the portable Kingdom Hearts games, 358/2 Days, has been released on the Nintendo DS. This game also takes place between the two PS2 games, and it even somewhat crosses over with the Chain of Memories storyline. Thankfully, they ditched the cards, and decided to go with the more traditional Kingdom Hearts combat. "

Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story

This week's DS on DS review is for Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story.

From the review: "Starting with the legendary Super Mario RPG, there have been a string of RPG games starring everyone's favorite mustachioed plumber. Now the latest RPG from Nintendo, Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story, has been released on the Nintendo DS."

Scribblenauts

This week's DS on DS review is on Scribblenauts.

Here is an excerpt: "Since this past E3, Scribblenauts quickly became a highly anticipated game for a lot of DS owners. For me, it was one of the five games coming out this year that I was really looking forward to playing. I mean, who wouldn't be interested in a game that gave you an objective, and then let you solve it however you see fit? This uniqueness, however, brings with it the game's biggest flaw: you."

DS on DS: Marker Man Adventures

This week's DS on DS review is on Marker Man Adventures.

Here's an excerpt: "The game has you playing as Marker Man (a stick figure), in search of his missing dog, Doodle. He has to travel through 170 levels to find him. Each level has a hand drawn look to it. Even the background looks like graph paper. It’s a nice touch. The music, on the other hand, isn’t so nice. This is one of those games that if you are going to play it, you better do so with the volume off. "

DS on DS: Fossil Fighters

This week's DS on DS review is on Fossil Fighters.

Here is an excerpt: "If you were to mix Pokemon with dinosaurs, two fairly popular concepts, you wouldn't think you could go very wrong. Add into that the fact that it is a first party title on the Nintendo DS, and you would really be expecting great things. What you wouldn't expect is something that is somewhat slow paced and even a little tedious, but that is exactly what Fossil Fighters is."

DS on DS: G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra

My DS on DS review of G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra was originally written on August 21, 2009.

Here is an excerpt: "Back in the day, G.I. Joe was one of the most popular cartoons on TV. Along with Transformers, He-Man, and Jem and the Holograms, it was one of the shows I never missed. All these years later, we are finally getting a live action movie, and thus, a video game based on said movie. Lately, movie games have been bucking the trend of being, well, crappy, but this is not one of those games."

DS on DS: Planet Puzzle League

My DS on DS review of Planet Puzzle League was originally written on August 7, 2009.

Here is an excerpt: "Tetris Attack on the SNES. Pokemon Puzzle League on the N64 (and Challenge on the GBC). Puzzle League on the GBA. These are some of the best puzzle games ever made. Now, Planet Puzzle League, the newest game in the series, has come to the Nintendo DS and it is better than ever. In fact, it may just be the best puzzle game to come out on the system. Mind you, I don't say that lightly. Tetris DS was great, and the two Meteos games were also wonderful. This game, however, is better."

DS on DS: Point Blank DS

My DS on DS review of Point Blank DS was originally written on July 31, 2009.

Here is an excerpt: "When I first heard that Point Blank, my all time favorite game series from the PS1, was coming to the Nintendo DS, I laughed. I thought, "How good could that actually be without using a light gun?" After much deliberation, I figured that it probably wouldn't be bad. I mean, the arcade versions of Point Blank forced you to be right up on the screen, so if you were just tapping the screen instead, it wouldn't be that horrible. I am glad to say, I was right."

DS on DS: Puzzle City

My DS on DS review of Puzzle City was originally written on July 24, 2009.

Here is an excerpt: "Puzzle games are no strangers to the library of the Nintendo DS. In fact, there are a lot of really good, and really diverse puzzle games on the system. That doesn’t mean that there isn’t room for more, because much like Jela-Ton™, there’s always room for more. As long as they are unique and don’t completely suck (I’m looking at you, Galactrix) they will be welcomed into my DSi for some quality play time. One of these new types of puzzle game comes to us with the very appropriate title Puzzle City."

DS on DS: Powerbike

My DS on DS review of Powerbike was originally written on July 17, 2009.

Here is an excerpt: "To many guys, motorcycles hold a special spot in their minds. Most guys either have a motorcycle or want to buy one. I have always wanted a nice crotch-rocket myself, but I know it will never happen. That’s mostly because I know I would end up killing myself on one. Since I don’t have one here in the real world, I thought I would try one out in this week’s Nintendo DS game: Powerbike. "

DS on DS: Treasure World

My DS on DS review of Treasure World was originally written on July 10, 2009.

Here is an excerpt: "Ever on the lookout for games that are outside the norm, I was immediately drawn to Treasure World. It's a game where you collect a bunch of different sets of items, which is one of my favorite aspects of Animal Crossing, but the way that it is handled is what makes it so unique. Treasure World is a hoarder's dream come true, and it has me completely hooked."

DS on DS: Indiana Jones and the Staff of Kings

My DS on DS review for Indiana Jones and the Staff of Kings was originally written on June 26, 2009.

Here in an excerpt: "Ever since Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis, we have all been waiting for another good Indiana Jones game. There was one that was shown using the Euphoria engine and that one was looking amazing. Then word came that it had been canceled but it was also made known that there was still an Indy in development for the Wii, PlayStation 2, PlayStation Portable, and the DS. The question remained of whether or not they would actually be any good though."

DS on DS Friday August 28 Update

Since I haven't gotten my copy of Fossil Fighters or Professor Layton 2 yet (Nintendo said they will be here tomorrow), I'm going to do sort of a "special feature" article this week. I am going to do a Best of Flipnote post. I already have a few that are simply incredible. I'm not sure how many I am going to include in the list, but I have a feeling it will be more than 10.

DS on DS for Friday, August 28

So, I'm still trying to figure out what game I should do for this week's DS on DS. I'm thinking about the new Professor Layton game, but I'm not sure if I would be able to properly review that game. Not to mention that half the time it makes me feel like an idiot... heh.

Little Red Riding Hood's Zombie BBQ

My DS on DS review of Little Red Riding Hood's Zombie BBQ was originally written on June 19, 2009.

Here is an excerpt: "Once upon a time, a girl rescued her Grandma from the Evil Wolf and his army. Her name was Red "Ready to Rock" Riding Hood. Afterwords, everything seemed to go back to normal, but now the dead are returning to life. Welcome to Little Red Riding Hood's Zombie BBQ, an action-shooter taking place in the land of fairy tales that just happens to have a problem with zombies."

Tornado

My DS on DS review of Tornado was originally written on June 12. 2009.

Here is an excerpt: "In Tornado, you play as cats who create, you guessed it, tornadoes. If that sentence doesn't immediately pique your interest then you need to go get your awesome sensor checked. "

Puzzle Kingdoms

My DS on DS review of Puzzle Kingdoms was originally written on May 22, 2009.

Here is an excerpt: "When the title screen came up, I almost thought I put in the wrong game. Of course, it was missing the obnoxious music from Puzzle Quest, but the screen is very similar. Even the menu looks familiar. It has the same layout, and the only thing different here is the color scheme and the lack of lightning. After selecting Campaign from the menu, I then went on to create my character. Wait, no, I only get to give him or her a name. Yes, much like Puzzle Quest Galactrix, you are only allowed to choose between a generic male or female Warlord. After starting my save file, I ended up on the map screen. And guess what? It too looks very reminiscent of the map used in Puzzle Quest."

WarioWare Touched!

My DS on DS review of WarioWare Touched! was originally written on May 15, 2009.

Here is an excerpt: "To no big surprise to anyone who has met me, I have ADD. So when the GameBoy Advance game WarioWare Mega Microgames was released, I was in twitch heaven. So when they announced WarioWare Touched! for the Nintendo DS, I was ecstatic. Well, at first I was a little leery about the whole idea of the DS. Then Scott got one and brought it over to my place. I got one just a few days later, and with it I got WarioWare Touched!"

Yoshi's Island DS

My DS on DS review of Yoshi's Island DS was originally written on May 8, 2009.

Here is an excerpt: "Super Mario World. Those three little words sparked the launch of what was arguably one of the best video game consoles ever, the Super Nintendo. Then word came of a sequel: Super Mario World 2. There was something different about this game though. Instead of playing as Mario, you played as Yoshi, who was carrying around a Baby Mario on his back. While it was a departure from the standard Mario fare, the game was excellent. Eleven years and a few spin-offs later, Nintendo finally decided to grace us with a proper sequel by way of Yoshi's Island DS."

X-Men Origins: Wolverine

My DS on DS review of X-Men Origins: Wolverine was originally written on May 1, 2009.

Here is an excerpt: "Today, comic fans everywhere cried out in pain as the cinematic abomination calling itself X-Men Origins: Wolverine was released in theaters nationwide. It also marked the release of the mandated licensed movie game. The surprising thing here is that the game is actually better than the movie. I honestly never thought I would see the day that this happened, but it is here that we stand upon this threshold of a strange and frightening new world."

The Chase: Felix Meets Felicity

My DS on DS review of The Chase: Felix Meets Felicity was originally written on April 24, 2009.

Here is an excerpt: "The Chase has you playing as either Felix or Felicity, and to go against the trend, I actually chose to play as Felix. Shocking, I know. When the game starts out, Felix is sitting at work, looking out the window at all the happy couples walking around, and wondering if he will ever find a girl. His boss yells at him for slacking off and staring at all the girls outside, and then send him off to deliver a package. See, Felix is a delivery boy, and he thinks no girl would ever want to be with a loser like him. He thinks his life will be relegated to sitting around alone, playing video games in his underpants. While he is running to deliver the package and not paying attention, BAM! He runs into the game's other main character Felicity, who just happens to be a delivery girl. They tell each other how cute they are and they make a date for the next day for some ice cream. This is when you get to start playing."

Tokyo Beat Down

My DS on DS review of Tokyo Beat Down was originally written on April 17, 2009.

Here is an excerpt: "The part that elevates this game to being above average is the writing. This game is intentionally cheesy, and because of this it is also ends up being hilarious. Right near the beginning of the game, while you are still going through the opening tutorial level, your partner who is only around for the cut scenes, kicks you in the face. You ask her why she did that, and she tells you it is to remind you not to be so violent all the time. The game continues down this path of cheese and bringing the funny throughout it's entirety."

Hannah Montana The Movie

My DS on DS review of Hannah Montana The Movie was originally written on April 10, 2009.

Here is an excerpt: "Today sees the theatrical release of the Hannah Montana movie. That means theaters everywhere will be filled with pre-teen girls and creepy old men. Because of the movie being released, I figured I would sacrifice some of my brain cells and my DSi to review Hannah Montana The Movie. And sacrificed I have."

Grey's Anatomy

My DS on DS review of Grey's Anatomy was originally written on April 3, 2009.

Here is an excerpt: "I don't know much about the TV show Grey's Anatomy. My knowledge of it is limited to the fact that it's about a hospital and the chick from Knocked Up is in it. I'm telling you this because I have absolutely no idea about who any of the characters are or what any sort of ongoing story arcs there may be. I also had no idea what to expect going into this game. I figured that it would probably be like Trauma Center Lite. It turned out to be more like Trauma Center Free."

Henry Hatsworth in the Puzzling Adventure

My DS on DS review of Henry Hatsworth was originally written on March 27, 2009.

Here is an excerpt: "If you have ever played Baby Pac-Man, raise your hand. If you aren't one of the three people who actually played it, the game consisted of Pac-Man and had a pinball table attached to it. It was a completely bizarre pairing, but I really liked how they mixed things up with it. Now there is a game out on the Nintendo DS that has an odd pairing of its own: a platformer mixed with a puzzle game. Again, it is another completely bizarre matchup, but Henry Hatsworth in the Puzzling Adventure does a jolly good job at pulling it off."

Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars

My DS on DS review was originally written on March 20, 2009.

Here is an excerpt: "Back in 1997 a friend called me and told me that I needed to come over and check out this new game he got for his computer. Of course, I rushed right over to his house. There I was greeted by a huge city full of tiny little people walking around and driving here and there. A group of Hare Krishna were walking down the sidewalk as my friend was driving by. A split-second later, my friend had whipped the car around and proceeded to run them down. Then he jumped out of the car and set some people on fire with a flamethrower. From that point on I was hooked on the series that would evolve into one of the most reviled and controversial videogame series of all time. Now the carnage, drugs, and swearing are available on the Nintendo DS with Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars."

Peggle Dual Shot

My DS on DS review of Peggle Dual Shot was originally written on March 13, 2009.

Here is an excerpt: "I love Peggle. Can that just be the review? No, I don't suppose it can. That is really all that needs to be said though. Peggle is one of those games that you can sit down to play for "just a minute", and the next thing you know it's 5 in the morning. Now there is a great portable version of the game to feed your addiction when you can't be glued to your computer. If you have never heard of Peggle, the best way I can describe it is a mix of Plinko, Pachinko, Pinball, and Breakout. Seriously. At the very least, you should check out some of the videos on YouTube to get a feel for the game."

Shaun White Snowboarding

My DS on DS review of Shaun White Snowboarding was originally written on March 6, 2009.

Here is an excerpt: "When I first started up the game, I was surprisingly greeted by Stabbing Westward - Save Yourself. You don't exactly expect to hear a song from '98 when you start up a snowboarding game. Also unexpected was Sweet's Ballroom Blitz. To me, a lot of the choices for the soundtrack were just plain odd. It is always nice to have an eclectic soundtrack, but it was put to waste with this game."

Puzzle Quest Galactrix

My DS on DS review of Puzzle Quest Galactrix was originally written on February 27, 2009.

Here is an excerpt: "When you start the game, you can choose from a male or female character. That's it. There isn't anything beyond choosing the sex of your character. You don't get any classes to choose from, and that means you get a very generic character. So right out of the gate things aren't looking good."

Animal Boxing

My DS on DS review of Animal Boxing was originally written on February20, 2009.

Here is an excerpt: "Yes, this is a game where you beat the crap out of furry creatures. Don't worry though, these are closer to the anthropomorphic animals in games like Animal Crossing. It's not like you are pounding on a cute little defenseless squirrel. As cruel as it sounds though, that probably would have made the game more enjoyable. And yes, you do get to pound a cock, as in a rooster. He's the lightweight champ."

Petz Catz Clan

My DS on DS review of Petz Catz Clan was originally written on February 13, 2009.

Here is an excerpt: "Once I got her home, I was told to play with her to make her happy. This meant petting her for somewhere around 2 minutes straight. She got happy, and then immediately walked into a different room to eat. All that playing made her hungry! Here, you open the fridge and pull out the dry cat food. You then are supposed to shake some out into the bowl, but I thought it would be more fun to spread it around the floor. Then, while Sue was trying to eat, I poked her repeatedly in the butt. For some reason, I kept getting a frowny face from her for doing that."

Skate It

My DS on DS review of Skate It was originally written on February 7, 2009.

Here is an excerpt: "It's no real secret that the two Skate games on the Xbox 360 are two of my all time favorite games. In fact, the first Skate is one of my most played games on the system. So, when EA announced Skate It on the Wii and DS, I was excited and extremely skeptical. I mean, they were taking the games and watering them down for these other systems. I finally got my hands on the DS version of Skate It and I have been playing it for the last few days. How does it stack up?"

Big Bang Mini

My first review for DS on DS was for Big Bang Mini. This review was originally written on January 31, 2009

Here is an excerpt: "Have you ever wanted to shoot fireworks at Pandas? I know I have, and now I can without worrying about getting sent to prison for attacking an endangered species. With Big Bang Mini, you can shoot fireworks at many different things without the fear of legal recourse."
